Praying for our Leaders

I Timothy 2:1-3 says that we are to pray, intercede and give thanks for kings and all people in authority. This is God’s command to every believer today. Praying for godly leaders is productive toward God’s plan and purpose for our nation. The Bible says the heart of a king is in the hand of the Lord. He can turn it however He wants, so our prayers are vital. Our prayers invite God to intervene in needs and allow us to partner with God’s will for our communities.

Wisdom is one of our greatest needs. As finite, fallen creatures, navigating the twists and turns of a complex, chaotic world, we often find ourselves at a loss for what to do next. And that’s only when we stop to consider the tough decisions.

Perhaps even more significant is the wisdom we exercise intuitively in all the little decisions in life we don’t pause to ponder. The overwhelming majority of our actions are not premeditated, but decided instinctively, without reflection. What comes out in these moments is either a trajectory of life with self at the center or walking in various measures in step with the Spirit.

And the stakes are even higher for leaders, who are making decisions for others.

People can offer hands and hearts until we are all worn out with serving. People can donate money for awesome causes. We can have and experience all kinds of amazing things together as the Body of Christ; but without the covering and lifting power of prayer, those fruitful moments can get troubled and robbed all too quickly.

More specifically, leaders need prophetic prayers that bring strategic insight, revelation knowledge, clarity and peace. At ABBA, our prayer teams pray with these goals in mind. Our prophetic prayer teams reveals and taps into the intercession of the Son to the Father for us (Romans 8:34). These strategic and weaponized prayers tap into the heart of God and can guide leaders into God’s perfect will with clarity and the boldness to execute.

The following is a prayer I’ve written to get your started. Pray it in faith, believing, and remember God watches over His Word to perform it (Jeremiah 1:12).

Father, in the name of Jesus, I pray that the Spirit of the Lord, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might and the spirit of knowledge shall rest upon our spiritual and marketplace leaders across our city. I pray that as Your Spirit rests upon them that You will make them of quick understanding because You, Lord, have anointed and qualified them to preach the Gospel to the meek, the poor, the wealthy and the afflicted. You have sent them to bind up and heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the physical and spiritual captives and the opening of the prison and of the eyes to those who are bound. (Isa 11:2,3)

Father our leaders shall be called the priests of the Lord. People will speak of them as ministers of God. They shall eat the wealth of the nations. I pray and believe that no weapon that is formed against them shall prosper and that any tongue that rises against them in judgment shall be shown to be in the wrong. I pray that You will prosper them abundantly Lord, physically, spiritually and financially. (Isa 61:1,6; Isa 54:17)

Lord I thank you that they hold fast and follow the pattern of wholesome and sound teaching in all faith and love, which is for us in Christ Jesus. They guard and keep with the greatest love the precious and adapted truth entrusted to them by the Holy Spirit who abides in them. (2 Tim 1:13,14)

Lord, I pray and believe that each and everyday freedom of utterance is given to our leaders that they will open their mouths boldly and courageously as they should to get the Gospel to the people. Thank you, Lord, for the added strength which comes super-humanly that You have given them. (Eph. 6:19,20)

Father as a prayer warrior I will stand with them and under gird them in prayer. I will say only good things that will edify and build them up. I will not allow myself to judge them but will continue to intercede for them and speak and pray blessings upon their lives in Jesus name. (1 Pet 3:12)

We’d love to pray more specifically for you and/or your leadership team. Contact me today at kmoffett@abbaconnect.net.
